The Autist's Guide to the Galaxy: navigating the world of ‘normal' people by Clara Törnvall
2.5
So this had some great insights/personal stories about autism, alongside some interesting commentary around communication, however a few things didn’t work for me:
- A lot of things were oversimplified. I get that it was for a younger audience, but some things were simplified so much they made the book less informative.
- The writing style was also very basic, but I’m not sure if that was down to the translation?
- A lot of generalisations were made, about both neurotypical and autistic people, with this coming across as a “one size fits all” approach.
- The quiz at the end didn’t seem like it had any research/evidence to back it up?
I loved the illustrations though!
