This was an entertaining enough read. It’s a dark mafia-style romance with limited action but a lot of instalove and big expressed emotion. The premise is that when Nero climbs into Payton’s apartment late in the night (for reasons that are never quite made clear), sparks fly and while he’s determined to keep her safe and hide their budding relationship, Payton wants all he has to offer.
The main issue I had with this was that the instalove piece wasn’t really believable to me, maybe it was the underlying tone of humor that was a bit jarring, something was off with this for me. Moreover, I feel like there was a lot of dub-con littered around this book that wasn’t necessary. Content warnings for child abuse and violence.
