Child of the Dark: The Diary of Carolina Maria de Jesus by Carolina Maria de Jesus

5.0

This is possibly the most painful book I have ever encountered. Only 159 pages but i took me forever because I needed to stop every so often to process the rawness with which she writes about the pain, the hunger, and the living conditions. Here we are complaining about the discomforts of our luxurious life when Carolina wakes up every single day fighting for hers and her three little children's life. A perfect book to read around Thanksgiving, that's for sure. I feel so lucky to have had the chance to come across this book and read it. I hope she will never ever again go hungry, never ever again worry the way she did. I hope that with the sales of this book worldwide, Carolina will live her fullest and when time comes die a warm, contented spirit. Such a strong woman to endure such hard life, she is truly admirable.
