Gilgamesh: A New English Version by Anonymous

5.0

This version of the Gilgamesh story is openly dynamic, and the interpreter takes a great deal of creative and poetic license with the original text. However, the result is a engaging, bridge-building text between the world of primigenial civilization and post-Modern English-speakers. It is (intentionally) not meant as a critical text or literal translation, but an attempt to convey the pathos of the text to initiates to the epic. I think it does the job well.

Mitchell explores a historical and literary analysis of the poem in an included essay comparably long to the epic itself. I was so thankful for this piece in expanding my appreciation and understanding of Gilgamesh's significance, and even its essential meaning.

A must for ancient history nerds.
