City of Fallen Angels
by Cassandra Clare
3.5/5 A nice continuation of the Mortal Instruments series. I enjoyed that we got the perspective of more characters this time and got to fill some contextual gaps. I particularly like the portrayal of Alec + Magnus (they are adorable, even though Alec tends to, khem, exaggerate at times) and Simon + Isabelle (some great character growth on her part, not so much on his in this area). However, I had mixed feelings about Clary + Jace arc. The whole spiel about love was gripping and emotional, yet what happened at the end made me question how far can Cassandra Clare push the 'love no matter what' trope. I found myself believing a little less that they indeed can get through this; thus, if they will, it will be that much less believable.
