This was an incredibly tough read, especially given what we now know about how Perry’s journey ends. I had no idea his addiction ran this deep and as someone who also suffers from the “Big Terrible thing” I found this to be both a cautionary tale of just how bad things could get, and an empowering story of persistence. I’m a huge Friends fan and I found his anecdotes about that period of his life to be the best parts of the book and you can tell just how much that time meant to him. All this being said, I do rate books based on my enjoyment of the writing and I did find this a bit hard to follow with the timeline jumps. RIP Matthew Perry—his humor and heart shine through, even in the darkest parts.
