Treasure Island
by Robert Louis Stevenson
I have been going on and off this book, so it took me a while to finish, but here is what I remembered feeling:
This story is a fun adventure with cool twists and turns. Even knowing the story beforehand, it was cool to see what these characters really are like, as opposed to only knowing how they are portrayed in movies or parodies.
A good idea this book brings up though, is one of psychological fear. Fear is how a lot gets done in the story. Fear is how Captain Flint kept his crew in check, fear is how Flint’s quartermaster, John Silver, was able to control Captain Flint. Fear is how Silver controlled the crew and kept them loyal. Fear is how he was able to stall a violent rebellion from the crew even though he was outmatched in quantity and quality (his missing leg made him handicap).
But what happens if you face fear? That’s what happens here, and the results are a powerful friendship, wealth, and an adventure to remember.
