The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle
4.0

This has been my favourite of the three Sherlock Holmes novels I've read so far. It's atmospheric and adheres closer to the formula that I enjoy when it comes to mystery novels (although being a very early example we don't quite have the full cast of characters and clues that a modern day whodunit boasts.)

I enjoyed being on the blustery moors with Watson as he flitted about gathering intel for Holmes. I liked the air of mystery and superstition. The Hound of the Baskervilles flows well compared with A Study in Scarlet and is a lot less racist than The Sign of Four. Could be a good starting point for those who wish to try a Holmes novel.
