It definitely very different to the first Vampire Chronicles book (Interview with the Vampire). Lestat’s overall personality makes the book very entertaining and the way that he approaches different situations and feelings can open up sorrow and humour at the same time I found.
The narrative is slow at the beginning but once Lestat moves to Paris, the book does feel like it starts to get going more. There are occasions where I felt the story was a bit stuck and bland sometimes but I understand that they were important to develop the plot.
