I have to admit that I wasn't completely sold on the first book but this was definitely significantly better in my opinion.  That being said I don't think it would it would compare to some of my favorite fantasy books.  I think a lot of the things that I had an issue with in the first book weren't an issue in this one.  I thought the first book was a bit slow (and I hate to say it but kind of boring) in the beginning but I thought this one was a lot better paced.  I got a better feel of the characters in this book and I liked how Fallon's friends felt a bit more part of the story because when I'm reading I feel like characters are the most important part of the book.  When it comes to Fallon, I have to admit that she's not my favorite.  I think she's fine but honestly sometimes I find her a bit annoying and I like Lore fine but I wouldn't rank him high against other male characters but there are just others that I like so much better.  I also found bits of the book kind of repetitive to the point that I got annoyed when Fallon bringing up the point that Lore was supposedly engaged.  I think I just got a bit impatient waiting for the two of them to get together to the point that I was just relieved when the finally did.  I'm also a bit mad at this book because I feel like the first two-thirds are fine and leaves me a bit on the fence with the book but then the ending is so good.  Like so much happens and then there is a cliffhanger that makes me have to read the next book.  I just wish the feeling I got from the last third of the book is what I got from the rest of it because that portion of the book was amazing but the rest of it was just fine.
