Dearly Unbeloved by Sophie Snow

was so glad to read this during pride month! a sapphic, spicy romance with found family and character growth. I always love a good fake dating / marriage of convenience, as well as an enemies to lovers, and I thought this did the enemies to lovers trope better than most contemporary romances. they — rose and sierra — really despised each other at the beginning. There’s a great cast of characters.

That said, it did read really slowly, even as I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. Something about the writing just made it feel a bit sluggish to get through, and there was an unnecessary (imo) dramatic event about 80% through that I thought was a bit too far. It’s also the third book in a series and while you don’t need to read the other books first to follow the story, I did find it a bit challenging to always remember the different characters and character relationships that were featured in earlier books (who’s a couple and who is related to whom, etc).

Overall, a really enjoyable read. It was spicier than I expected & I love that they talked through what they do or don’t like and boundaries are always respected. Debating whether or not to pick up the other books in the series!
