From other reviews I knew that this was going to be good and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Sabaa Tahir writes rich characters with immense world building. I feel like we have only begun to scratch the surface of these characters and world and I know before the end Sabaa will have me on the edge of my seat and will probably rip my heart out.
Laia has lost the majority of her family and to save her only living relative from death aligns herself with the rebels and infiltrates the military school where the trials to find a new Emperor are being undertaken. Elias is one of those candidates, a brilliant student but the person who wants this honour the least. Laia and Elias find themselves on a collision course and will need to navigate this treacherous world together if they have any hope of surviving.
