2.0

Is this book full of tropes? Yes. We've got:
  • Enemies to ... maybe (probably) lovers? The only reason for the "maybe" is that it's supposed to be "slow burn"
  • Tons of angst. Miscommunication. Trauma from past relationship.
  • A brash, fiery, impulsive heroine. Granted, she's a princess so it's not unrealistic.
  • Everyone is hot/attractive.

Does it read like fanfiction, and would it benefit from tighter editing? Yes. There are a number of obvious grammatical errors in addition to more subtle editing points like plot and character development. The way the characters speak sounds a bit immature, and the prose is very colloquial.

Is the concept super original? No, especially since a lot of world-building elements come from existing Japanese mythology with just a bit of a twist. I can see this being enjoyable for Inuyasha fans though.

That being said, it's a super quick read, and there were some entertaining elements to this book. As long as you are aware of the limitations and trigger warnings, I think it could be nice entertainment when commuting since it doesn't require much brainpower to get through. Another big plus was that the e-book was free on Google Books (at the time of this review). For me, despite the trigger warnings provided by the author
R (violence, sexual conversations, mild-gore)
, I feel it reads young in terms of tone and complexity. YMMV.
