When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill
5.0
Then (July 2023) - 5 out of 5 ⭐️
Now - 4.5 out of 5 ⭐️
I first picked up this book while on vacation. I found it tucked into a cute little local bookstore and had seen it mentioned a few times on BookTok so I decided to grab it. I finished it before the plane landed back home 5 days later.
Fast forward to this year and I decided to select it for my book club to read. This time around, I listened to the audiobook because some times switching styles helps me pick up on things I had missed the first time around. But all the feels were still very much there. This book made me angry. It made me upset. It made me uncomfortable. But it also gave me hope and kept me wanting to continue reading.
Is it a perfectly written book? No. Is it for everyone? Also no. But for the people it will resonate with, it is a powerful one. And the reviews from the members of my book club also reflect that. Some hated it while others loved it. So I will continue to recommend it but with the same caveat I gave them, this book is not everyone’s cup of tea.
