I’m really at a loss. This is one of those situations where a lot of unnecessary shit happens in a book or, rather, most of what happens in the book could have been shortened by about 200 pages and saved us all a lot of time.
Reading Onyx Storm puts me in the mind of the Divergent Series, in the way that Insurgent was almost entirely unnecessary and the series could have been told entirely with just Divergent and Allegiant. I’m thinking this may have been a better approach with the Empyrean series.
What I’m getting at is…Empyrean is probably better suited to be a trilogy than a 5 book series because right now it feels like we’re in the filler anime arc.
I mean, we have so many fucking characters and such a large world that’s been unexplored in the Empyrean saga. Do we have to spend every book with Violet if it’s going to slow the story down as much as it did in this book?
I don’t care for Mira much, but we could have spent this book with Mira or Garrick or Imogene instead. There are many strong characters that could serve more plot than a cute little 300 page journey looking for a new kind of dragon that conveniently plays Deus Ex Machina at the last moment after they supposedly rejected Violet and her entire effort and still left the story nearly as unresolved as it was when it Iron Flame ended.
But, that’s just, like, my opinion man…
