Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches
by Audre Lorde
Fantastic collection. Really makes me wonder why I kept putting off reading her work. 30 years postmortem and her words still ring true. Audrey Lorde's reflections and analysis on language, power, love, and fear to the queer person of color - a black lesbian academic - in the USA built a foundation of expression through poetry that all queer people of color in the US inherited whether they know it or not. Amazing revolutionary work that had such an impact on knowledge that her wisdom reverberates in not only the theories we read today but the frames I use to understand and contextualize my experiences and that of my community.
The quote that really got me to start reading this book was her take on revolution - Revolution must be sustainable, because they are not a one time event.
