The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

4.0

Now I want to listen to the audiobook version of the book too, because I think it will be even more impacting to listen to the power packed poems from this book.

I was bowled over by this new style of narration, where the entire story is narrated via poems by our fiesta protagonist Xiomara , aka Poet X.

She has a lot of questions - about feminism and her faith. She has a lot of struggles - mostly with her absent father and her very strict mother. She has her best friends and her twin brother, who has secrets of his own. And then she has Atman, her love. But most of all, she has her words. And through her words, her poems, she finds her place in the world, and fights, like the warrior she is meant to be.

I loved this book and highly recommend it :)
