5.0

Summary: Winter Craig couldn’t feel any better. She finally confessed her feelings to her lifelong crush Spencer and they shared their first kiss. But the day after, tragedy strikes. Spencer is killed in a place crash while trying to get his pilot’s license. Everything that Winter knew crumbles before her very eyes. Instead of spending the rest of her senior year blissfully dating Spencer she spends it wandering around trying to make sense of everything. With her best friend Linsday by her side and a certain boy next door who keeps popping up, Winter tries to put back the pieces of her heart.

Rating: 5/5

This book surprised me—in a good way. I have to say that I loved everything about it.

All of the characters Mills created are very complex. At first you get everyone on the surface level, but as the story progresses the reader gets to delve deeper into each character, even the bitchy popular girl. Your perception of each character changes as you learn more about them. I also like that you get the minor character’s stories as well. It doesn’t just focus on the main character’s problems.

I also loved the way that Mills portrayed Winter’s reaction towards the loss of Spencer. In an almost poetic way Mills describes Winter’s struggles to come to terms with the loss of her first love and also to try to move on. The book shows all the heartbreaking emotions that someone goes through when they lose a loved one. All the what-if’s and regrets, all the remembering of good memories, and even all the fears of moving on and forgetting them.

This book broke my heart but it also mended it back together. I would definitely recommended this book!
