I expected more from this book. There was instalove - or instalust, not really sure which - and there was a love triangle. I know it is a retelling, but I would've liked more intrigue and complexity from the plot. Minus the stupid romantic conflicts, I did like the characters though. They were definitely rough around the edges and I liked how Nyx didn't just roll over and let everyone walk all over her. She had her conflicts.
The world-building was very interesting though! I really liked how Hodge mixed Ancient Greece and it's mythology with the Beauty and the Beast tale. She did a good job mixing her own created mythology in with Ignifex's curse. She even made her own magic system based on the elements to include in the story. It made Hodge's world very interesting to explore.
Overall, not a bad book. It definitely fell short of the hype though.
