Milk and Honey
by Rupi Kaur
My 25-year-old self would have loved this book of poems. My 37-year-old-self has been there and done that.
The main idea of the book is that you can overcome whatever adversity confronts you. The first and last chapters were stronger than the middle. My main complaint is that the author dwells on lovers who didn't appreciate or value her specialness and sexuality. It's tempting to think someone didn't understand or see everything you could have offered in times of loss, but the reality is that most people are not exceptional and they're also pretty self-centered.
I guess it's not poetic to be like "you're completely average and your lover left you because that's just what people do. In a week he/she will just be another example of why you should question your judgment."
