I found this for free on Audible and decided to give it a try and I am so happy that I did. A great story that does some amazing world building while introducing a cast of very relatable characters and a paranormal or supernatural mystery as well as a whodunnit, and some great character work without it feeling like it's filled with exposition.
The main characters, Stephen the Paladin and Grace the expert perfumer are brilliantly brought to life, Grace's critical inner voice is incredibly realistic and relatable, too, and the reasons why her inner critic is a character are deftly and with consideration woven into the story.
Not to forget there is a romantic subplot that gets quite spicy and the use of enthusiastic consent is both in-character and sexy as all hell. I, an ace with a fondness for fade to black did really enjoy the spiciness.
The reader is excellent 👌 and I have bought the second one in the series already. Excellent.
