Maphead: Charting the Wide, Weird World of Geography Wonks by Ken Jennings

4.0

What a great book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! My favorite chapters were: "Legend," about make-believe maps, "Reckoning," about Geography Bees, "Transit," about roadgeeks, and "Overedge," about geocaching. In case anyone asks, here are my Maphead bonafides: as a kid, I always put up a map next to my bed so that I could lay there thinking about all the different places; majoring in maps (sort of...geology); and still being able to spend HOURS exploring Google Earth. My ONE BIG COMPLAINT is that Ken Jennings makes fun of his wife for turning maps to orient better, but that IS HOW YOU SHOULD READ A MAP!!!!!!! (Geology training: the map should be oriented to correspond to the view you can see).
