One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
1.25
Worst book I’ve ever read.
“A struggle against good and evil.” - most reviews**
Where is the “good”? Who represents the “good”? I know who the author wants me to think is the good guy… but McMurphy is apedophile, narcissist racist who pushes what he believes on everyone else to gain power for his own ego BUT he’s a symbol of Christ.
**Edit: While many people push the idea that this story represents “good vs. evil” or is “antiestablishment”, I talked to someone who read this in high school and was taught that the book is actually an allegory for free-will. McMurphy represents unbridled individual free-will and Ratched represents government, law, and order. Regardless, I still don’t recommend this book, but at least with this understanding, I can finally stop thinking about it.
