One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey

1.25

Worst book I’ve ever read.
“A struggle against good and evil.” - most reviews**
Where is the “good”? Who represents the “good”? I know who the author wants me to think is the good guy… but McMurphy is a
pedophile, narcissist racist who pushes what he believes on everyone else to gain power for his own ego BUT he’s a symbol of Christ.

**Edit: While many people push the idea that this story represents “good vs. evil” or is “antiestablishment”, I talked to someone who read this in high school and was taught that the book is actually an allegory for free-will. McMurphy represents unbridled individual free-will and Ratched represents government, law, and order. Regardless, I still don’t recommend this book, but at least with this understanding, I can finally stop thinking about it.
