Several years ago, I bought this entire series because the covers looked magnificent and I'm easily swayed by a gorgeous cover. But recently I've been running into shelf space issues, and decided that I must read the books or let them go.

The premise is really interesting, and the story should capture you and draw you in. Some described imagery is pretty memorable. The idea of the characters is distinctive, interesting and the way they interact should be striking.

The problem is that I've been reading this like I'm on death row and finishing is the only thing that will get me a reprieve. I don't care about anyone. I don't care about what happens next. And that old addage about "less is more" really applies in this case. It's everything I hated in The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue, but gorier.

And because I'm not enjoying this at all, I've determined that the charity shop can have the books with their pretty covers and I'm abandoning ship here.

Good luck to everyone else, this one's not for me.
