Twilight of Embers
by Tessa Hale
Good
WARNING! Cliffhanger! This is a 5/5 on the trauma scale, so consider yourself warned.
Hayden thinks that her chances at having a normal university experience are pretty good when she starts the course she won a scholarship for. No longer will she be the girl whose parents were murdered, instead it’s a chance to just be another kid on campus. Meeting several handsome, older students (and one professor) shouldn’t change things too much, until she discovers that none of them are exactly normal…
Five dragon shifters, linked together in a bond of brotherhood, find themselves faced with a rare female dragon shifter, only she knows nothing about it, or the supernatural world. Unfortunately there are plenty of beings who want to either take her for themselves, or to kill her.
This book starts out seemingly lighthearted, barring Hayden’s own personal history; but quickly dives into the darker realms. While the dragon shifters (Knox, Easton, Cael, Cillian, and Maddox) seem strong, they have others who are targeting them, and the world they live in is a brutal one.
There are some steamy scenes, a few truly creepy characters, and a lot of confusion- because like Hayden, we’re in the dark as to what a lot of the issues going on are all about.
It’s still an enjoyable read, and the RH fantasy lover who likes darker elements to the story, will more than likely enjoy this book too.
