I am so glad to read a novel written by someone who’s just like me. This is the most relatable novel I’ve ever read so far. It reminded me of my own feelings while I was figuring my queer self out. The romance made me absolutely giddy and got me kicking my feet in the air. I also went through a series of trauma in high school eerily similar to what the main characters experienced. It made me realize that things do get better. Its historical context was well-researched and really opened my eyes to Asian American queer lives over half a century ago. I am currently a senior at Cal, and the San Francisco scene described filled me with pride thinking that I walked through the same streets and possibly climbed the same (excruciating) stairs!
