i liked exactly one story (spikes), felt nothing about most of them, and disliked a good handful. i can appreciate a good divorce/breakup story but that’s almost all these were and they just really did not do it for me. the final story was at least interesting but really rubbed me the wrong way with how it fell into the gross “archaeologist awakens ancient evil from violent, barbaric, native culture” trope without really examining colonialism. trigger warning for sexual assault and pedophilia in this collection. 

i would still like to give mysteries of pittsburg a chance because i’ve heard good things, but i really did not like this
