The Dutch House by Ann Patchett

3.0

This was a disappointment. This is one that I would have really rated 2.5 stars instead. My first issue is that I had a hard time with this being written from a male point of view knowing that the author is female. Not sure why that was an issue for me but it just never seemed to gel. The dysfunction of the Conroy family that seemed to continue for a couple of generations was frustrating. Then to frame it all around a house and the impact that “the house” has as opposed to the secrets and decisions of the people..........blah blah, blah. I am sure that is what Ms Patchett was trying to convey but......... Oh well. This review is just for me to recall books anyway. The timing of the years did not seem to fit, especially after Elna started taking care of Andrea. The decisions that Danny made concerning the secrets that he kept from his wife, just as his dad had done was sad. Maeve and her hatred for Andrea, tiring. Elna, not a saint. Jocelyn and Sandy were the saints. Glad to be done with this
