Almost DNFd so many times, but curiousity got me to finish it. I'm sad I didn't like this more. This seemed like it would be right up my alley (why choose, monster men, gothic setting, etc.) Unfortunately, I didnt love the writing style, felt the pacing was off and jumpy, and the "plot" (the whole Birsha thing...and Mary?? What was the point of her? ) didn't interest me...

I also felt NOTHING for most of the characters. The FMC had one character trait : 'nymphomaniac' and no other personality. I also didn't care at all for Amon, Auguste, or Jonathan. They were all so one dimensional and boring. Mr. Tanner, Ezra & Booker were probably the only reason I kept reading. Even then, it ended so abruptly and left me with so many questions and loose ends... and I'm mad I didn't realize this was not is stand alone. Probably will never get to the other books so I guess my questions will remain unanswered.
