i wasn't sure if i would like this book but it always catches my eye at the bookstore so i finally grabbed it and i'm happy to say that i honestly really enjoyed it. i did a quick refresher of the original macbeth story beforehand. this retelling was much darker and casts both macbeth and lady macbeth in different lights so it's interesting to compare.
this story obviously focuses much more on lady macbeth (roscille) and her own plights as she discovers who she is in a loveless marriage to a violent man. there were a lot of poignant passages and i felt a bit of a kinship with roscille. i was really rooting for her.
overall, this was a meaningful retelling and one i greatly enjoyed.
