Plot or Character Driven:

Strong character development:
Yes
This is basically an alternate version of the world we live in, closely anchored in our reality with magical additions but not the usual clichés of dragons etc. Excellent world-building and ideas, a medium-paced plot. The characters are complex, interesting and still somewhat believable
My review is surely biased because I loved this series a child, and it has thankfully lived up to my memories of it. There are only a few moments where it felt like YA.
I think people make too big of a deal of the anti-religion aspect. There would be holes in the plot without it, it by no means feels like a main theme of the book.
