Between Life and Death by Jaclyn Kot
2.0
Like a hot meal on a hot day.
Reading this was like eating hot Chips on a hot day: I love hot chips year round, but they're not always great.
The story had potential and promise, the characters did too. But the execution just didn't quite hit the mark. It felt almost too rushed in some parts, and dragged on in others. I found it also seemed to chop and change with the style of writing; some chapters filled with intricate descriptions and others more attuned to reading a teenage girls diary: it was consistently inconsistent.
I remarked to a friend a few times that the saving grace was the promise of top tier smuttiness. Imagine my surprise when I reached the end of the book only to find our FMF and MMC never got further than fingers and tongues. Fantastic fingers and tongues. But only fingers and tongues, never more.
