Reminders of Him
by Colleen Hoover
it’s confirmed, guys, it’s colleen’s trademark to make her books about dramatic car accident + very much convenient flashbacks in the form of letters/ whatever + a “i know it won’t last and it hurts but i’m a masochist” type of forbidden romance.
(i’m looking at you, tate)
well thank god at least our girl kenna saved ledger a heartbreak by going to therapy in advance lol
you know, starting this book, my first thought was “oh no i’ve read beartown in the same month as this, which one am i going to put in my 2022 fave book from each month wrap up???” because i was so confident this would be a 5 stars.
while i was touched by kenna’s desperation and effort to hold the daughter she never got to met just once, the romance was unconvincing. i often questioned whether they would fall in love if not for diem/ scotty. and physical attraction ofc. neither of them were someone i would fall for (or even connect to??? i was so emotionally distant from them) as their only personality trait was revolved around those mentioned above. you’re telling me ledger fell for kenna because she loved her child to no end and would do anything to get her back?? yet she gave up at the first rejection..?? and he was no better than a typical rich ass bad boy either lmao wtf. they were both so incredibly bland to the point where i had to wonder if i was reading the same book as those who had given this 5 stars. maybe it was because of the writing lmao i fucking hated the writing.
and it’s not even the worst thing?? booktok pls stop pressing colleen to give yall a new book look at the ending i refuse to believe she wrote that in anything but an unstable mental state resulted from pressure. like lol the letters were a cliche already you didn’t need to make them a COMEDY.
this book lacked emotional depth & it felt so clumsily crafted as a whole and i couldn’t believe it was written by the same person who wrote it ends with us. at one point her storylines start to feel predictable and boring like she was running out of ideas? sorry she literally said “oh yeah let’s make a heartbreaking romance about something controversial with insane plot twist but everything is convenient so i don’t have to think of any twist xoxo” the more i think about it the more irritated i get.

Spoiler
the letters serving as evidence of her “reasonable paranoia”during that night to make everyone magically forgive her were so predictable & cliched like ?? bruh what even were those 300 pages forthis book lacked emotional depth & it felt so clumsily crafted as a whole and i couldn’t believe it was written by the same person who wrote it ends with us. at one point her storylines start to feel predictable and boring like she was running out of ideas? sorry she literally said “oh yeah let’s make a heartbreaking romance about something controversial with insane plot twist but everything is convenient so i don’t have to think of any twist xoxo” the more i think about it the more irritated i get.
