caitibeth 's review for:
The Human Division
by John Scalzi
An intriguing way to structure a book! The "episode" idea worked for me; it felt like a season of a TV series rather than a novel, but that wasn't a bad thing. Like some TV series, the season's themes and overall plot only gradually became clear, and were more pronounced in some episodes than others. I ended up enjoying all the episodes. Scalzi is a good short-story writer.
Abumwe and Coloma are fantastic, and I am choosing to ignore a certain plot development and pretend they have a long and interesting life together. Similarly, Wilson and Schmidt need to start dating already. ;)
The book ends with lots of threads left unresolved - it felt very much like a season-ending cliffhanger to bring viewers back for Season 2. I look forward to reading the next book.
