If Love Had a Price by Ana Huang

must read

Two people, from different backgrounds, have animosity and unexplored tension, discover different sides of the other, when put in a compromising situation. The more time they spend together, the more understanding and respect grows. Between the bickering, intense frustration, growing friendship, something started to build where they began to trust the other with things no one else know, saw a side of the other they kept hidden, and had each others backs when needed. Nate and Kris’s connection and relationship was nothing like I expected. Both are high-stung and independent, but care about the people they love and will do anything to keep them safe.

I thought I knew how this story was going to play out, but damn, twist and turns made my head spin. My jaw was on the floor and I couldn’t help the triumph I felt when things started falling into place. Nate’s insecurities of not feeling good enough and sabotaging the good things in his life and Kris never backing down from who she is and owning up to her harder exterior makes them feel real and genuine. By the time there was about 100 pages left, I started thinking, “what else can these characters go through and resolve?”. And then boom, bombshell. I phone about fell out of my hands. That twist took my completely by surprise.

“Plus, Kris sometimes glimpsed deep, abiding loneliness behind Skylar’s sunny smile. And that, she could relate to. The feeling of being all alone in the world, even when you were surrounded by people, could be a real b—h.”

“Instead, he moved his mouth to her ear and nipped her lobe. Quick. Gentle. A promise of future pleasures to come. “Not yet,” he whispered. “I’ll kiss you when you’re begging for it.”

“Those things have nothing to do with the other,” he said. “Gentlemen don’t need to broadcast the fact they’re gentlemen,” Kris pointed out haughtily. “Perhaps not.” A mischievous gleam lit up his eyes. “But you don’t look like the type of girl who’d want a gentleman, so I’m not too bothered.”

“I don’t beg.” “So you said.” Nate’s voice deepened into a soft growl. “But if you don’t stop looking at me like that, I might kiss you anyway—and not on your lips. Or your neck.”

“Kris’s stomach fluttered in a way that was possibly unhealthy. Some girls swooned over roses, some girls swooned over jewelry, but Kris? She swooned over guys who hatched diabolical plans to get rid of evil stepmothers-to-be.”
