the goldfinch is a brutally honest and human novel. it captures the good, the bad, the good in the bad. the layers and slices of life. i found it a bit frustrating at points, when theo would mess up his life even more, but then again i think that‘s what makes it such a human story. because we all make insensible decisions, and life isn‘t straightforward, and people mess up. but still there can be this one thing that captivates us, and that speaks and whispers to us - our own personal goldfinch that pervades so many decisions and moments in our lives.
