A&P: Lust in the Aisles by John Updike

3.0

I read this short story by John Updike in high school (almost a decade ago!) and HATED it. I thought it was so stupid. What's the point of writing a short story set in a grocery store with no real storyline and only angsty emotions? I'm slowly changing my tune on this, however. The descriptions are wonderful and there are deep questions the story poses. Is this a great story? No. But I would recommend that everyone who loves literature to read it at least once in their lifetime. Its not like it takes very long to read it, anyways.
