Summer by Edith Wharton
5.0

I only bought this book because I’d read The Age of Innocence when I was seventeen. I enjoyed it and thought I’d give Wharton another chance.

I loved this book! It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a book this much. Charity faces such a hard life at such a young age once she starts to make her own decisions, admittedly not always the best ones.

When her affair goes pear-shaped, she finds herself trapped in an impossible situation, with the idea of escaping everything she’s ever known etched on her mind.

This book is so powerful and still relevant to the modern girl and woman. It’s full of the hard truth - that our decisions, no matter how big or small, could change our lives easily. Do we choose the easy life or the complicated one?
