Brooding YA Hero: Becoming a Main Character (Almost) as Awesome as Me by Broody McHottiepants, Carrie Dirisio

3.0

This was such a clever idea for a book. I enjoyed the egocentric narration and perspective, but the criticism regarding the stereotypes of YA novels and the unrealistic features of the characters and the absurdness of some of the plots were beautifully interwoven. I liked how the novel humoured the fact that the female protagonists and male heroes have been so predictable for the past couple of years: the girl is insecure and different, the boy who she ends up falling in love is an egocentric jerk who emotionally abuses her.
It was fun to read.
