Guys! This is the first Oprah Book Club pick that I actually liked! I can’t believe it. Seriously, I read it in 24 hours.
This was an excellent read. Tayari Jones tells the tale of two black newlyweds and the obstacles they face early on in their marriage when Roy is wrongly convicted and sentenced to prison. This book explores the different phases of love against the backdrop of discrimination and racial injustice in an expert way. Jones’s writing paints vivid pictures of her characters while examining the quagmire of family dynamics and its effects on one’s life.
I definitely recommend this one and look forward to reading more of Tayari’s work.
