The Push by Ashley Audrain

5.0

When Blythe and her husband Fox bring their baby girl Violet into the world, everything feels like it should be in place. They’re finally the picture perfect college sweethearts following “the plan” as they should. But as Blythe begins her journey into motherhood, nothing is feeling as she had hoped - especially with her daughter. Is she struggling with postpartum depression? Or is there something else going on?

Within 20 pages I knew this would be a 5 star for me! I haven’t read anything before that captured those raw, unfiltered and dark thoughts of early motherhood. It was honestly intense and hard at times to feel seen in that way. Peeling back the layers of Blythe’s childhood along with her own mother’s childhood really added to the depth of generational trauma and the question of how it’s passed down. Is it nature or nurture? There were times I was in tears and had to go snuggle my babies a bit closer.
