The Moonstone
by Wilkie Collins
mysterious
Fairly a hit, though you can see where Wilkie Collins was paid by the word. And else the...romantic longing wasn't quite it, but it was kind of compelling for the most part. Mr. Gabriel Betteredge's narrative was funnier than I expected from a mystery novel, but we started things off well because of his humor. It was generally a good time. More Wilkie Collins to come. Armadale?
ps. There's something to be said that a jewel from India, taken from the forehead of a deity, would cause bad luck to the British folk who want it for their own...Curious.
