Messy Perfect
by Tanya Boteju
Thank you to my library for having this book facing out on the new arrivals shelf cuz the cover caught my eye immediately and I hadn't heard of it anywhere else.
I'd been a bit worried lately that I was growing out of YA but this book got rid of that fear. I absolutely adored Cassie. I didnt grow up religious, but I did grow up being one version of myself at home, a separate version at school, and a separate one by myself. I found her so relatable.
I love the message this puts across of "messy perfect". Everyone makes mistakes, thats never gonna change, but what matters is how they're handled.
I really enjoyed the cast of characters although I did want to see a bit more from some of them (companion novels perhaps?)
Overall, this story centers Cassie and her journey through accepting herself much more than it centers the relationships she has and I loved it.
Also the epilouge at the end 🥹 its letters written by the authors past students and I absolutely cried when I read that.
