One of many classics that I read for school. It was unique in that the narrator was more of a reporter than an active player, and succinct in the language while being more evocative than Hemmingway. Not the favorite book I've ever read, but also arguably better than most of the classics that I have read by male authors. (I have a preference for female authors with the classics because the women are actually written as people.)
