Earthlings by Sayaka Murata

3.0

A book that achieves what is intended.

This book is about childhood trauma and escapism, and I would recommend going in blind. It starts off realistic and then becomes increasingly fucked up. It didn't disturb me as much as some stories in Life Ceremony (perhaps I've become a bit desensitized?) but it was still a wild ride. Sayaka Murata's writing is good, as always. The book itself is very short and I read almost all of it in one day. However, it didn't leave that much of an impression.

I would give it three stars, it's good for what it is.
