Grind
by K.A. Merikan
It’s a bit of a smooth sailing start, completely placid and the authors allow us to immerse ourselves in Franks world, feel his grumpiness, ruthlessness, his charm, his love for his found family, his sheer giddiness and smitteness (is that a word?) with Ezra. We really see very little of Ezra beyond his chemistry with Frank and his immediate desires.
Ezra at first is a fairly transactional character, focused, has just enough depth but single minded about what he wants, it took me a while to connect with his character - but he is sweet with loads of walls up as we see from the glimpses we get into his childhood which was heartbreaking.
Then the story starts unfolding, threats to life, epic personality clashes and forced proximity are beautifully leveraged by the authors to make me attached to both these characters and their journey as they slowly start opening up to their feelings and stop resisting the attachment that’s driving them both mad.. the frustration and caution and resistance was something else
