The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

4.0

Maybe a tad higher than 4 stars. This book was a lot of fun. I listened to a bit of the audiobook which was very well done. Read by the author along with different voice actors for each of the characters.

Full of intrigue, suspense, and a host of memorable characters, I can see why this book is popular. My only real complaint is I'm never a big fan when "god-devices" are used in a book. In this case I'm talking about the *alethiometer* which essentially allows Lyra to know the answer to anything anytime she wants. But given the target audience for this book, it's not a big deal.
