Lars Kepler's "The Sandman" revealed the villain a lot earlier than their previous books. In general, one could say that this whole book's focus was rather on the villain. I found this kind of a shift interesting, because it brought some freshness to the series.
Although one could consider Joona Linna's career so far as "successful", he still has one case that his conscience does not believe is over yet: the case of Jurek Walter, a cold-blooded torturer of those people that have once stood in his way and who has a really good understanding about human psychology. I really loved Saga's POV and backstory: one only gets strong if their life has treated them roughly.
