This book has been on my shelf for some time, gathering dust. I assumed from the cover it would be a slightly flaccid and unexciting book. Well we all know the saying... how wrong I was.

Adverts for the recent TV series inspired me to pull my finger out and I then devoured the entire book without pause. My flatmate asked me why I was crying at the dinner table. This book is why.
An absolute cracker from Niffenegger, thoroughly original, extremely well-written and often very funny. She neatly ties up a minefield of potential plot problems, given the time travelling nature of the book (no spoilers there I hope), and easily navigates the changing relationships of the cast. I was sucked into the book immediately and kept hooked, even through the constant perspective and time changes, which is a credit to the author as I regularly find altering perspectives off-putting.

The prose was elegant and well edited, and the plot well thought through and engaging. I really can't fault this book and would recommend it to anyone. I can see why it has inspired several TV spin-offs, although apparently the Rose Leslie one I was going to watch is actually not great and has been cancelled. Nobody's perfect I suppose.
