Burying the Hatchet by Chaz M Scala

5.0

This book was like reading words that have sprouted from my own heart. I don’t know how to explain it but Chaz has this way of writing that is just so honest and resounding. Some highlights for me were ‘For the Mouse in My Kitchen’ and ‘Sucker’. My absolute favourite piece, ‘Record of a Small Breakdown’, ends with the lines: “Flowers will sprout among my bones when this is over. However it ends.” And I think that describes Chaz’s poetry perfectly. Like flowers among bones. Like making something beautiful out of all the pain.
